Comoros Boat Mishap

At Least 45 Killed In Comoros Boat Mishap
8/9/2011 8:33 PM ET (RTTNews) -

As many as 45 people have been killed after a boat capsized off the Indian Ocean archipelago of Comoros on Tuesday, reports quoting emergency officials said.

The boat destined for Anjouan island with around 100 people on board sank south of the main island of Grande Comore after its engine apparently failed.

Boats are a widely used mode of transport in the Comoros and several mishaps which occurred in the past have been blamed on overcrowded vessels.

Lack of proper maintenance too has contributed to boat accidents in the tiny nation.
