FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, Oct 28, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) --
Through the horrors of war and the births of nations, Dr. Amnon Goldstein has tested the boundaries of unconventional medicine for decades. His new autobiography, "Screwed - The Path of a Healer" ( www.iuniverse.com ), reveals his discoveries about the true sources of healing and wellness.
The Israeli-born Goldstein has practiced medicine around the world using contemporary Western, traditional Eastern, spiritual and mystical approaches. In regions beset with violence, he repeatedly witnessed the human spirit's ability to foster its own physical recovery.
"Having treated the victims of war, the poorest of the poor in the most miserable conditions, and even myself, the lesson I have learned is that we all have the power to heal ourselves," says Goldstein, a Florida resident.
"No one tradition of medicine, culture or religion has the all the answers. But the answers can be found by those willing to see the possibilities around them."
Born in the midst of Israel's struggle for independence, Goldstein honed his surgery skills during the warfare that permeated his homeland in the 1960s and '70s. Treating the victims of war and terrorist attacks at a time when advanced medical and surgical techniques were only beginning to evolve, he learned that scalpels and sutures could become even more powerful instruments when complemented by Eastern techniques and simple faith.
When a series of tragic events challenged the physician to "heal thyself," he put his knowledge to the test -- on himself. He overcame chronic pain caused by car accidents and depression caused by chronic pain. He faced his biggest challenge after becoming infected with HIV/AIDS while working in South Africa.
Goldstein remains an advocate of proper nutrition, exercise and meditation as the foundation of healthy living. He encourages patients and physicians to look beyond individual ailments to the root causes of illnesses.
"The main power to heal is the patient's will," he says.
