3 Pak aircraft violate Indian airspace

NEW DELHI: A red-alert was sounded in the Jammu sector when three Pakistani fighters came close to the Indian border on Tuesday afternoon. While technically not an airspace violation, it flouts an agreement between India and Pakistan, which stipulates that fighters or armed aircraft won't fly within 10 km of each other's airspace.
Sources said, ground-based mobile observation posts of BSF spotted the three Pakistani fighters flying low in "close proximity" to the border on Tuesday afternoon. The fact that ground-based posts, instead of long-range radars, visually detected the fighters means that they had clearly violated the agreement not to fly within 10 km of the border.
While "unarmed" transport aircraft and helicopters are permitted to fly up to 1,000-metre close to the border, it's supposed to be a strict no-fly zone for fighters. Defence minister A K Antony just a few days ago had disclosed that Pakistan's military aircraft continue to violate Indian airspace.
