10 Places You Should Not Use Your iPod

Some people seem to lack all common courtesy anymore and believe that it is okay to use any electronic device (smart phone, Nintendo DS, iPod, etc.) wherever and whenever they want. Technically speaking just because you actually can do that (of course) that does NOT mean you should do that. In case you, or someone you may happen to know is not clear on this topic, here are at least 10 places or situations where you should NOT use your iPod:
- Church – Words are just not quite adequate to explain the number of ways it is wrong to be listening to your iPod in church and don’t tell me it’s because you are listening to a downloaded version of the Bible or anything that remotely resembles something related to church activities. It’s just wrong and a church is not the place for your iPod.
- School – In some situations teachers will allow the use of an iPod, but in general if you should be paying attention in class or taking a test, it is most likely inappropriate to be listening to your iPod (though I’m sure you might like to record your notes and transfer it to your iPod for your next big test).
- Work meetings – Yes, I have been in situations where this actually happened. Someone was not paying attention to what the boss was saying because they had an iPod plug in one ear and were completely distracted while the boss was asking a question (the boss was on a speaker phone). In general, using an iPod in a work meeting is simply risky business.
- Driving – Now we aren’t talking about those of you that have your iPod wired into your cars stereo system (or via Bluetooth). We are talking about those fools out there (you know who you are) that insist on listening to their iPod with their ear buds in while driving. This is just STUPID, enough said!
- On the phone – How is it possible that your phone conversation is necessary and at the same time so boring that you need to have an ear bud in one ear and the phone in the other? I mean, just hang up on the other party because you clearly don’t want to talk to them (this applies to conference calls as well).
- Conversations – Specifically, when kids have their iPod blaring music and simply aren’t listening to their parents. At my house, that results in an immediate forfeiture of the iPod in question with an undefined return policy.
- In court – Yep, nothing tells a judge you could care less about your case then you sitting there listening to your iPod. Don’t think it happens? Well, you would be as wrong as the defendant. If your attorney condones this activity fire them immediately.
- In the doctor’s office – We aren’t talking about the ridiculous amount of time you spend in the waiting room. By all means use your iPod and anything available to you to fight the boredom their. However, once you get a nurse or doctor’s attention, they deserve yours as well.
- Standing in front of any cashier in any store or restaurant especially if you are in front of me – Now this is truly a pet peeve of mine because I am usually the person standing behind this jerk in line that won’t shut off their iPod to simply pay for their merchandise.
- Public restrooms – That’s just gross and something that I don’t want to hear. I don’t want to hear you singing along to your iPod, humming, whistling, or making any other sounds with your person while you are in the public restroom. Just don’t do it! Think of it as your quiet time if you must.
