Islamabad, March 31 (DPA) At least nine people were killed and 16 injured Thursday in a bombing that targeted a religious-political leader in north-west Pakistan, police said.
The attack took place in Charsadda district of Khyber-Pakhtukhwa province when Maulana Fazalur Rehman, the head of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party, was passing through a busy street in a motor convoy.
Rehman was unhurt but some of his bodyguards were injured, Nisar Marwat, the district police chief, said.
'Until now nine people are confirmed dead while 16 more are injured,' he said.
It was the second attempt on Rehman's life. On Wednesday, a suicide bomber detonated his explosives when Rehman was about to reach a political rally in Swabi district. Ten people died and 19 were injured.
