Four year old boy shot dead at his doorstep
SUKKUR: A four-year-old boy and a robber were killed during a police encounter near the railway crossing in New Pind on Sunday afternoon.
A group of armed robbers raided Ghulam Mustafa Abbasi’s tractor shop on Racecourse Road and looted cash worth Rs20,000, prize bonds, a mobile phone and a motorcycle.
A police mobile arrived and an exchange of fire broke out between the law enforcers and the robbers. Four-year-old Attequr Rehman, son of Ghulam Nabi Rind, was standing at his doorstep and was shot in the chest. He died on the spot.
The police arrested a robber and seized two pistols, the prize bonds and the motorcycle.
One of the robbers, Ajmal Shaikh, was also shot in the firing and when his accomplice, Nazir Kahndhro, tried to help him, they were both caught by the police. Meanwhile, two of their accomplices escaped. The injured robber was taken to Civil hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Sukkur B Section police station’s head constable said the police has registered a case against the four robbers on the complaint of Ghulam Mustafa Abbasi.
Sukkur City DSP Rizwan Soomro told The Express Tribune that the robbers left the shop while firing indiscriminately to keep people away. “The young boy was killed when the robbers opened fire and the police arrived later. The exchange of fire between police and robbers only injured Ajmal Shaikh, who later died in the hospital,” said Soomro.
He commended the police party for taking action and expressed sorrow over the death of the innocent boy at the hands of the robbers.
