Karkala (Udupi District): Union Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily said on Sunday that the Union Government would come up with a comprehensive plan to deal with the problem of corruption in the country within 60 days.
He was speaking after inaugurating the “Gandhi Nadige”, a programme to train Congress workers from the booth level, here.
Mr. Moily said the plan would include working on a law for establishment of the institution of Lokpal to go into allegations of corruption against public functionaries. The Union Government would also strengthen other laws to check corruption. “The previous National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government is the source of all corruption. It should stop giving sanctimonious sermons to us,” he said.
He said that it was the NDA Government which issued licenses for 2G Spectrum on a “first come, first served” basis leading to massive corruption. It had not followed proper auction process. To undo this policy, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government had gone in for completely transparent process in allotting the 3G spectrum.
Applause
“This transparent policy has received all-round applause”, he said.
Karkala MLA Gopal Bhandary welcomed the gathering. President of the District Congress Committee Gopal Poojary presided over the function.
