QUETTA - Death toll in coal mine collapse in Sorrange area of Balochistan increased to 45 on Monday and so far 25 bodies have been retrieved.
About 52 miners were busy in a PMDC’s coalmine in Sorrange, some 40 km away from Quetta when explosions took place inside the mine due to accumulation of methane gas, in the early hours of Sunday. All miners were trapped inside the mine.

Official sources said that all 45 trapped miners had been killed and search for missing miners was underway, however, chances of recovery of finding trapped miners alive were very slim. “I visited the mine site. 45 miners have died; however, so far 25 bodies have been recovered,” Provincial Minister Sardar Aslam Bezinjo told newsmen after visiting the site.
Sources said the victims carried severe burn injuries, adding bodies of victims had been dispatched to their hometowns.

It may be mentioned here that Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani has taken serious notice of loss of precious lives due to blasts in coalmine and has formed a committee which would present its report on March 25.
