The death of Y S Sachan, who was the main suspect in the murder of chief medical officer B P Singh, in Lucknow Jail doesn't appear to be a suicide. TV news channels on Thursday claimed that they have accessed Sachan's autopsy report which indicates he was assaulted inside the jail. Sachan, who was a deputy chief medical officer, was found hanging by his belt from an iron grill in an unused toilet on the jail hospital on Wednesday. He had also reportedly tried to cut his wrist veins. But channels claim the autopsy report says Sachan died of excess blood loss and there were six deep wounds on his body. The belt found around his neck was not the main cause of death, channels report. This perhaps indicates that Sachan was assaulted.

The jailor and four other prison officials of the Lucknow Jail were on Thursday suspended for Sachan's death.

"Jailor of the Lucknow Jail, a deputy jailor, a head constable jail guard and two guards have been placed under suspension on charges of dereliction of duty," an official spokesman said in Lucknow.

He said that based on the preliminary report, a departmental inquiry has also been ordered against the suspended staffers.

The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered a judicial probe into Sachan's death.

Sachan was named in CMO murder case as the main accused by police following the arrest of three persons by the Special Task Force on June 17.
Singh was shot dead by unidentified persons on the morning of April 2 when he had gone out for a walk.

Sachan was arrested immediately after Singh's murder when the investigating agencies detected swindling of funds to the tune of several crore of rupees in the implementation of the National Rural Health Mission in Uttar Pradesh.

Sachan's name was also linked to the murder of another CMO (Family Welfare) Vinod Kumar Arya who was shot dead in October last year.
