India News: Body of a young woman found in a suitcase

Woman's body found in suitcase

MUMBAI: Body of a young woman was found in a suitcase at Sandhurst Road railway station of the Central Railway in wee hours today, police said.

According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the body of the woman, aged between 24 years and 26 years, with semen stains on her private parts, was recovered from a new suitcase that was abandoned by a man at around 1.30 am on platform number one at Sandhurst Road railway station of Central Railway.

A resident of a building located near the railway station witnessed the man leaving the suitcase on the platform. As the man did not return the witness informed the railway control room about the suitcase, police said.

"There were bruises on her neck and back and her right eye too bore injuries. Preliminary probe suggests that she was strangulated a few hours before she was bundled in the suitcase, which appears to be a new one. There were semen stains on her private parts. We are awaiting medical reports to ascertain if she was raped", said Additional Director General (Railways) Raj Khilnani.

In a similar incident, body of a woman was found in an abandoned suitcase at Juhu beach last week. Nobody has been arrested so far for the murder.

"We are not linking this with the Juhu incident but we are enquiring with the
Mumbai police on the Juhu case also. A team of Mumbai police approached us to probe if there were any similarities between the murders," said Khilnani.
