Rifca Stanescu has staked a claim on being the world’s youngest grandmother at only 23 years of age. Having eloped with her husband Ionel when she was only 11, the Romanian-born Rifca had her first child, Maria, when she was 12 years old.
Her daughter, Maria, married her own husband at the age of 10 and had her first son, Ion, who is now two years old, just a year later. Unless someone else comes forward, Rifca may hold the title for being the world’s youngest grandmother.
Speaking to UK tabloid, Metro.co.uk, Rifca said that she was happy to be a grandmother but wished more for her daughter, because pre-teen pregnancies are honestly nothing to be proud of.
Metro.co.uk reports that a 29-year old woman in England came forward as England’s youngest grandmother last month when she revealed that her 14-year old daughter had repeated her own mistake by having a child. Speaking to the press, she said, “I felt the colour drain from my face and all I could do was cry.”
