Menopause: Changes In Woman BodyMenopause is a part of natural aging process occurring in all women. It’s caused by changes in progesterone and estrogen levels. The symptoms vary from woman to woman, and if they are too severe, the physiciansshould prescribe hormone replacement therapy.
Menopause is defined by the physicians as the end of fertility and menstruation. It’s a natural event occurring 12 months after the final period. Function of the ovaries is reduced, as a result, level of produced estrogen and progesterone goes down. Usually menopause occurs at age 50 or 51.
Menopause symptoms begin much earlier in the period called perimenopause. These changes are caused by ovarian hormonesfluctuation. The most common symptoms of this transition phase include a change in periods, hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances and skin flushing, heart pounding vaginal dryness and urine leakage.
A large number of perimenopausal women experience emotional symptoms, such as depression, anxiety and stress. Widely spread signs of depression include sadness and a feeling of being worthless, changes in appetite and habits. Women think that menopause is the end of their attractiveness. But it’s not true, because menopause will not put an end to your sexuality and femininity.
Though menopause is not an illness, medical help is needed when the symptoms, including signs of depressionare too severe. There are a large number of treatments, which will help to cope with these symptoms. You will have to undergo a thorough examination. Remember, your physician must know all about your medical history before prescribing hormone therapy. First of all he should know whether you are at a risk of such diseases as breast cancer, heart disease or osteoporosis.
After menopause you can face with such medical conditions as developing cardiovascular disease, urinary incontinence, osteoporosis and weight gain. To decrease the risk of heart diseases, you should stop smoking, try to normalize blood pressure, get aerobic exercises and stick to diet rich in vegetables, fruit, whole grains and products containing monounsaturated fats. This diet will also help you to control weight, which tends to increase after menopause.
