Parli, Maharashtra: Amidst the concerns of deteriorating sex ratio, nine female foetuses have been found in a drain in Maharashtra's Beed district. Police have registered an FIR against unknown persons after the story was first reported on IBN Lokmat.

The shocking discovery comes amid concerns that Beed district has the lowest child sex ratio in Maharashtra with 801 girls per 1000 boys, while the state's average stands at 883 girls per 1000 boys.

Beed has the lowest male-female sex ratio in the age group of 0-6 years (801 as against 1000 male children) as per the 2011 census.

Maharashtra's sex ratio in the age group of 0-6 years is 883 girls as against 1000 boys.
But it appears now that the authorities are trying to downplay the situation with the area SP claimed that just two foetuses have been found against nine as reported on Saturday.
Even though the police claimed that there were only two foetuses, locals claimed they have seen at least nine.

A postmortem has been conducted on the two foetuses recovered by the police and a case has been registered against unidentified people. The police have also launched a search operation for the people responsible.

The state government has announced that it is planning a massive campaign in Beed and the entire Marathwada region to curb female infanticide.
