85 shops found selling banned drugs

NEW DELHI: The Indian drug regulator has found large stocks of three banned medicines during surprise inspections in Delhi and Bhiwadi (Rajasthan) to clamp down on drugmakers and chemists who continue to sell these drugs which have adverse side effects.
During the inspection, conducted by 13 teams of the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) on more than 130 drug outlets, including hospitals, 85 centres were found selling the prohibited drugs , a health ministry release said.
Several wellknown drugmakers market these medicines in different brands in the Rs 58,000-Indian drug market. The chemists and drug outlets have been asked not to dispose off stocks of prohibited drugs. "Further action will be taken against them after the investigations are over," it said.
