Summer make-up calls for lighter, brighter colours - but we also want products that won't melt in the heat and will last all day...
Golden girl: Make sure your make-up isn't affected by the heat this summer
EYES
Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place ShadowCremes (£15.50, estee lauder.co.uk)
There are nine new summery shades in these little pots of cream shadow, which can be applied with your finger.
The formula gives good coverage which won’t crease, and lasts up to 15 hours. Gold Dust, Buttercream and Café Au Lait are very flattering colours for all ages.
L’Oreal Paris Lash Architect 4D Mascara (£10.99, Boots)
This is L’Oreal Paris’s first false eyelash effect mascara and it is designed to give you fuller, thicker and longer lashes.
The secret is said to lie in the Architect brush, which coats every lash with sculpting fibres and waxes.
You get instant results with no need for false lashes or extensions, and the effect seems to last all day.
2True Easyglide Kohl Pencil in Black or Dark Brown (£1.99, Superdrug)
Eyeliner always looks best when blended well, and this is a soft, easy-to-use pencil which doesn’t drag the skin when being applied. Smudge a little of it under eyes for a sultry, smoky evening look. A star buy.

Shiseido Limited Edition Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio, (£34, 020 7313 4774)
Sun, Sea and Stars are the theme of Shiseido’s 2011 summer limited-edition collection, which includes an eyeshadow palette with shades inspired by sand dunes in the sunset.
Maybelline Eye Studio Colour Cosmos Collection (£6.99, Boots)
These quirky planet-inspired eyeshadows work really well. There are nine different shades in a two-way shadow: one side is a marbellised swirly effect, while the other is an intense pigmented shade.
Use the sparkly side to highlight, or on its own for the evening. Blue Moon is a gorgeous deep azure; Shiny Nude suits all skin tones.
Maybelline New York Eye Studio Gel Eyeliner (£7.99, Boots)
This easy-to-apply gel liner stays put well into the evening. It includes a precision brush, so you can apply as much or as little as you like. It dries quickly and really helps to make your eyes stand out.

Bourjois Intense Eyeshadow (£6.99, Boots)
These are brilliant multi-use eye colours. They’re deeply pigmented so you can go for a block of colour.Brush on lightly for a colour wash, or use a damp eyeshadow brush to create long-lasting liner.
With ten shades, there’s one to suit everyone, including 03, a fresh, shimmery pink, and 06, a vibrant blue.
MAC Zoom Coloured Mascara (£13.50, maccosmetics.com)
There are four great shades in these new mascaras from MAC.
If you haven’t worn coloured mascara for a while, go for Blue Charge, a deep royal blue, which enhances the whites of your eyes. If it’s full-on colour you are looking for, Green Is Green, a bright jade, will give you maximum impact.
Paul & Joe Eye Gloss Duo (£16.50, asos.com)
This limited-edition multi-purpose eyeshadow wand is designed to make summer eye make-up fuss-free.
There are five colourways to choose from, with each one providing a pearlescent highlighter and a deep pearly gloss with metallic shine.
The most neutral is 04, Bourgeoisie, which is a brown/pale gold combination.

LIPS
Clarins Colour Quench Lip Balm (£15, clarins.co.uk)
These tubes of lip balm come in eight delicious, shimmering shades, and help to keep lips hydrated in the heat while also giving a slick of colour. We love Pink Marshmallow, a pale frosted pink.
Sisley Hydrating Long Lasting Lipstick in Tangerine (£30, 020 7591 6380)
Last summer, orange lipstick seemed a step too far, but this year it’s hard to avoid it. It’s a shade that looks great with lightly tanned skin, and also makes your teeth look whiter. Contains vitamins E and C to help keep lips soft and hydrated.
Topshop Lip Glaze in Bubblegum (£6, Topshop stores)
This new shade lives up to its name — a perfect summer bubblegum pink. It can be worn on its own as a lip tint to give a hint of colour, or over lipstick to provide high shine. Also available in Laid Back (coral) and Dash (nude).

Vie At Home Be Bronzed & Beautiful Lip & Cheek Dome Collection (£15, vieathome.com)
A clever little palette offers all you need for beauty on the go. This limited-edition set contains Sun Tan, Coral and Sun Glow, which can be used on lips and cheeks. The former looks especially good on sun-kissed skin and gives lips a natural beach-perfect look. And best of all, it’s small enough to slip into your pocket.
FACE AND BODY
Clinique Limited-Edition Almost Bronzer SPF 15 with pouch (£22, 0870 034 2566)
New for Summer 2011, this bronzer comes in a small palette with two shades pressed side by side, so you can blend to create the colour you want.
The formula is oil-free and long-lasting and, best of all, contains no sparkle. It comes in a floral lemon and lime pouch, so it is perfect for travel.
Model’s Own Bronzer (£8, Boots and modelsownit.com)
this bronzer comes in two shades, Natural Bronze and Sun Goddess, for different skin tones. Each one has two different colours to mix together, or use separately, to highlight and shape.

Nars Laguna Body Illuminator (£33, Selfridges)
Shimmer isn’t always flattering, but this illuminator looks totally natural. It’s a wash-off product that gives just enough colour to enable it to be used on top of an existing tan. Leaves skin looking dewy.
NAILS
Essie Nail Polish in Made To Honor (£9.95, nailsbymail.co.uk)
Nude, beautifully groomed nails are a summer essential. Made To Honor is a grown-up version of Essie’s classic pale pink Mademoiselle and is the perfect pink for natural-looking nails.
Jessica Top It Off 676 (£9.75, Jessica salons or call 0845 217 1360)
From Jessica’s new Party Chic Collection, Top It Off is a black top coat that ‘cracks’ when it’s applied to the nail on top of polish.
Once dry, it creates a trendy animal- print effect.
CAN WE SLOW AGEING TO A SNAIL'S PACE?
In the wacky world of beauty treatments, there’s always something new on offer. Remember the nightingale-poo facial treatment?
The latest product on the market is Snail Cream from Elicina (£39.95, elicinaeurope.com). The name is enough to put you off, even once you know that in Chile, where this product and the snail (helix aspersa muller) hail from, it is considered a miracle balm, capable of soothing burns, calming acne and banishing wrinkles. It’s infused with ‘80 per cent snail extract’ — a subtance that the snail secretes when under stress. Hmm.
Even if it does slow the ageing process to a snail’s pace, would you want slime on your face? It might add a nice gleam to your cheekbon
