- Ignoring Others. Missing out on meeting friends, or not paying attention to what someone says, can be very rude, and cause all kinds of hard feelings. That email you’re writing might be important, but can it wait until you at least say hello?
- Avoidance. The internet might be a good way to avoid dealing with people whom you are having a conflict. Still if this becomes a habit, then it can cause you to be lacking in care and compassion.
- Constant communication. Texting while driving can be dangerous. Too many become hooked on being connected with people continually and can’t stop, even when they’re away from the computer.
- Too Much Information. Facebook and Twitter give you a chance to post your life for others to read. As you get addicted to telling details, that not everyone wants to hear, this can extend over to regular conversations.
- Cryptic Messages. While text abbreviations might be great for messages online, they aren’t always appreciated in things like memos or letters. Just another online habit that can create problems.
- Excusing Mistakes. Mistakes online can be easily written off as unimportant or deleted after the fact. That isn’t always true in real life online.
- Not Keeping Obligations. Time can easily slip by while online, causing you to miss commitments you’ve made. If you become accustomed to this, your reliable can start to deteriorate.
- Missing Work. Being sick is an understandable problem for everyone. Staying home to spend time on the internet instead of going to work can be easy to do, and could cost you the job it becomes a habit.
- Eliminating verbal communication. A person can become so used to communicating in text, that speaking on the phone, or face to face, may seem foreign and intimidating.
- Expecting more choices. When shopping or searching online, your choices seems unlimited. This can lead to frustration and a lack of patience with shopping options in a physical shopping environment.
Hopefully we don’t let any of these habits become our nature. It is a good list to have, and examine, to see if you are at risk for one of these becoming a problem.
