Somali pirates’ bid to hijack ship foiled again

ISLAMABAD: Another attempt by the Somali pirates to hijack the recently-freed ship was been foiled on Wednesday. Talking to a private TV news channel, social activist Ansar Burney said that a group of pirates attacked Capt Wasi’s ship at 8:00am on Wednesday morning.However, after a two-hour exchange of fire the attempt to hijack the ship was foiled. He informed that Captain Wasi and his crew remained unharmed during the attack and the ship is heading towards safer region. He also appealed to the nation to pray for the safe return of the recently-released captives. Four Pakistanis and 18 other people are on board the ship. The four Pakistanis, included Capt Wasi, engineer Sayed Alam, diesel mechanic Muzammil and a resident of Swat Ali Rehan.


Afghan vice president escapes rocket attack

KABUL: Afghan Vice President Karim Khalili and Interior Minister Besmullah Mohammadi escaped unhurt after a rocket attack targeted a police centre in central Afghanistan on Wednesday, officials said. Provincial spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said the attack happened in the Chaki Wardak district of Wardak province, a restive area west of Kabul. “There was a security meeting in the police training centre at which the interior minister and second vice president were present,” he said. “After the meeting was over and we were leaving, a rocket landed within a few hundred metres of the centre but nobody was injured,” he added.
