Fresh attack by pirates on MV Suez

CHANDIGARH: Celebrations turned sour as news of fresh attack by Somali pirates reached family members of Indian crew aboard Egyptian merchant ship MV Suez on Wednesday.

Of the Indian crew members, Ravinder Gulia is from Rohtak, deck cadet Satnam Singh belongs to Ambala and Prashant Chauhan, a chef, is from Shimla. Their family members and relatives are glued to TV screens for the latest news while praying for their safe return. The crew members were released by pirates on Monday after paying ransom of $2.1 million.

"Around 6pm, Ravinder called us to say his ship was attacked twice by another group of pirates. Initially, they approached Indian Navy. A Pakistan ship, PNS Babar, is about to reach them," said Sampa Arya, Gulia's wife. A helicopter carrying commandoes is circling MV Suez every 15 minutes. Besides Sampa, Gulia also spoke to his son Yugant and father Raghbir Singh. " Pakistan Navy helped and rushed a warship from Oman," Raghbir Singh said.

Family members of Satnam Singh, the youngest of the four crew members on board, were worried after they heard about the fresh attacks.
